My don't have to say that! - A Joey Quote

Today - May 3, 2012 - is National Day of Prayer {In the United States}

As much as I love that an entire day has been set aside to recognize prayer and remind each other to pray... there is much more to this amazing part of our Christian walk.

For me, however, praying is like breathing. I am in constant conversation whether it be in gratitude for what I've been given or pleading for an answer or forgiveness. So much so, I probably mumble or talk out loud at times. In fact, I know I do. Savannah has questioned what I'm doing at moments. A simple "Mommy is praying" or "Mommy is talking to God" has sufficed and she has went about her day. It isn't odd behavior to her. It's what we do.

"Pray without ceasing." ~ I Thessalonians 5:17

Now, I don't think that verse means we are to pray every second of our life... simply that we are to never give up on it.

Savannah has been trying to teach Joey how to pray. She has tried to teach him to pray before the meal and what to say. He inevitably responds with "My don't have to say that!" The sweet little boy is right. He doesn't have to say any specific words and he isn't required to pray at specific times. {Before a meal, before bedtime, before a trip...} It's a great idea but we're not frazzled if it doesn't happen at traditional moments of prayer.

"But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking." ~ Matthew 6:7

We teach them to pray from the heart and that it should be a part of their walk with God... and not a mandate that is looked down upon if it isn't done.

Joey is still learning to be quiet when others are praying and what the entire meaning of prayer is. My heart melts when I see Savannah taking time out of her day to pray. I hope to one day see her walking through the house in conversation and prayer with her Lord.
