Prior to tasting the delicious apple pie prepared by my mother in law, I was never a fan of the dish. It was generally dry and bland. Even with a scoop of ice cream placed beside it, I would turn up my nose. Not interested.
Yet, one Thanksgiving dinner…. I was offered the dreaded apple pie. I was a newly wed, and it was being offered by my mother in law. She had spent many hours planning and creating such a beautiful dinner for everyone. I kindly accepted and figured I would gracefully swallow every bite no matter what.
It was juicy! It had flavor! It was heaven!
I present to you, the only apple pie I will currently eat….
2 1/4 cups flour
3/4 tsp salt
3 tbsp milk
3 tbsp sugar
3/4 cup oil
Mix in pie plate with fork until crumbly, Press into shape. Prick bottom.
Apple Pie Filling:
7 cups of pared, peeled, and sliced Granny Smith apples
1 1/4 cups sugar
3 tbsp flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp lemon juice
prior to having streusel topping added
2 tbsp butter or margarine
Combine all ingredients except butter and mix. Pour into pastry-lined pie pan. Dot with butter. Put topping on top and bake at 425 for about 45 min. Don't let the topping get too brown.

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
My mother in law gave me a few changes/additional tips to this recipe!
She has adjusted temp and baking time!
She bakes at 425 for 10 minutes, then reduces temperature to 350 and bakes an additional 25 minutes.
So a total of only 35 minutes baking. Try this, I think you'll love it!
